Despite his obvious success, even President Trump admits that the real estate game isn't an easy one. Especially when you're first starting out! As a new agent you face an uphill battle with one hell of a learning curve.
In a recent article he encouraged agents not to become too discouraged with how steep that learning curve can be in the beginning. As a real estate agent, you will need to keep yourself in a constant state of education and growth if you want to be successful. He suggests that you start by learning your area saying:
"Learn your area from the inside out. If you don’t know the neighborhood you’re trying to promote or sell, you are doing yourself and your clients no good. What businesses are doing well? Which aren’t? How are the schools? Playgrounds? Crime rate? The best grocery stores? Hardware stores? Restaurants? Parks? Transportation? What makes the neighborhood desirable? Undesirable? Be honest."
His other tip is to hold off on trying to directly sell houses to people that aren't interested. The real estate mogul turned president insists that you will only end up driving them away. Instead what you need to do is keep your eyes and ears open to their needs. Figure out what their problems are and how you can be their solution. You may think you are in the business of selling houses, but the truth is that you're in the business of selling solutions.
How to sell houses by solving solutions (and learning at the same time)...
One of the best ways to get yourself exposure and position yourself as an expert in your area is to start a real estate blog. By constantly posting content that is full of valuable information and giveaways you can offer solutions to common problems that your potential clients face. Before you know it your website traffic will be growing, your database will become more valuable, and the phone will begin to ring with people that are ready to hire you (the expert).
The second way to brand yourself as THE real estate expert in your area is with books. No....I don't mean reading them (although that never hurts), I mean writing them. Picture this: you go to a listing appointment and when you go to leave you hand them your BOOK instead of your business card. Now that makes a statement! A book is an amazing way to revolutionize the way people see you and your business. Want to know the best part?! You don't have to write a word of it! You can hire a real estate ghost writer (me) to write the entire thing for you. Then all you have to do is throw your name and picture on the cover. The most successful agents in the world have many books covering a variety of topics.
