If you are a real estate professional with a Facebook account, you likely belong to a few different Facebook groups. You probably turn to these groups as a useful resource to help you learn, promote, buy and sell.

However, did you know that you can use Facebook groups to get traffic from your blogs and leads too?!

That’s right! In fact, I get tons of blog traffic and leads from my Facebook group Blogging For Real Estate Leads.

In this post I am going to show you exactly what you need to do to get blog traffic and leads using your own Facebook group, as well as, other’ groups. Be sure to hang out till the very end to get a copy of my 12 step Facebook Group checklist!

The Benefits Of Facebook Groups

There are many reasons to join and build Facebook groups, some of which I mentioned above.

If you are like most people, you lurk in other groups for a long time before you participate in the conversation. Perhaps you never do.

However, the whole point of Facebook groups is to create a community of like-minded people to engage with one another for some benefit. In professional or local groups, like the one you’re going to create, the goal is to exchange valuable information and resources.

In order for any group to work and it has to be beneficial to members consistently.

Here are several ways that you can benefit from building your own Facebook group:

  • You can attract new followers organically

  • You can learn what is important to your prospects and clients

  • You can showcase your real estate expertise

  • You can build valuable relationships that will translate into more business

  • You can promote your real estate blog and other content to increase traffic & leads

Facebook Group Etiquette

Have you ever heard of someone being kicked out of a Facebook group? Perhaps you have even been kicked out yourself…

That’s because the rules of that group were not being followed or respected.

Just like with most communities, there are rules or laws for Facebook groups, which are usually enforced. If you want to build an effective and lucrative group of your own, you will also need to establish a set of rules for how people post and communicate with the community.

Here are some do’s and don’ts of most groups that you may want to consider including in your groups’ rules:

  • Don’t try to sell yourself

  • No competitors allowed

  • Don’t post anything with involving politics, religion, or profanity that might offend someone

  • Only post information or questions that are relevant to the group

As the owner and administrator of the group there are some do’s and don’ts that you should mind as well.

It is important that you keep up with the conversations and answer as many questions as you can. Remember, you are trying to position yourself as the local real estate expert on X.

Also, do not just drop your articles without some sort of benefit or teaser including value to your group members. You know my rule - always make it about them!

Please also keep in mind that if you join in on a thread, you should be committed to finishing the conversation. Don’t just respond once or twice and then disappear; that’s not a good look.

What Facebook Groups You Should Join

Aside from building your own Facebook group to promote your real estate blog and business, there are plenty of other relevant groups for you to join.

As always, you need to consider who your audience is when selecting a destination for your content.

Here are some ideas for groups to join where you can promote your content and build new relationships:

  • Local pre-existing groups that discuss locally relevant issues, news, events, and other concerns.

  • Anyone looking to make business off of agents (brokers, recruiters, title companies, etc.) should join groups of local agents.

  • Groups that are focused around local business owners and networking around business.
